Moreover, Bukittinggi also offers a unique culture experiences. The majority of the population of the locals are Minangkabau ethnic group. The name of Minangkabau means buffalo's triumphant, that become symbol of the culture. Minangkabau culture is quite different with other Indonesian cultures. Their culture is matrilineal racing of kinship over the female line, with also the property and land going down from mother to daughter, while religious and political matters are men's responsibility. The unique fact about Minangnese people is they are like to go far from their home for making some business or get a better life (merantau). Merantau is considered as one of the success point. That is why half of the Minang people scattered throughout many Indonesian area. Besides the Islamic faith, Minang people also follow their adat (customs) referred by animist believed.

Because of the richness of natural wonders, cultures, and food, Bukittinggi has been picked by the local government as a "tourism city"(eturbonews.com, 2018). A lot of things has been done by the local and national government to promote tourism in Bukitttinggi. This including the reconstruction of the Jam Gadang, and the creation of so many tourism events. One of the recent tourism event that been held in Bukittinggi is Minang Geopark Run. It is a sport tourism event that created by the local government, ITB and PTTI with support from Ministry of Tourism Indonesia. The event succeed to attract international and local tourists to come to visit Bukittinggi.

The teamwork between all different stakeholders like local and national government, universities and private sectors are important to improving the potential of the tourism development, and it seems that it is already established. However, the number of tourists that visiting Bukittinggi is still low compare to the tourists that visiting other main tourist destination in Indonesia. One of the primary problem that Bukittinggi faces is the lack of tourism infrastructure. Hidayat et al, 2017 stated that there are various problems in West Sumatera tourism infrastructure. The problems are: the non-appearance of transportation system to support tourism activity, the problems of connectivity and accessibility between tourism spots, the lack of land development, poor standard of toilet and waste facilities and minimum low budget for tourism investment.

In conclusion, Bukittinggi has high potential to be developed as the main tourism destination in Indonesia. There are several steps were taken by the local and national government to promote the Bukittinggi and West Sumatera tourism, but the number of tourists are remain low. So to enhance the potential of tourism development, the government need to improve the infrastructure related to the tourism activities, to accomplish the convenience of the visitors.
